Doug Ford’s 95-year-old mother-in-law has tested positive for COVID-19 at an Etobicoke nursing home where there have been at least five deaths. During his daily COVID-19 briefing, the Premier became emotional, voice cracking at times, when talking about the pain loved ones are feeling for their loved ones in long term care. “You see a loved one with their elderly parent and they put their hand up against the window, that’s heartbreaking. You know I relate to it in my own family with my wife Karla and a person got on a cherry picker…um…anyway, the system we can do better.”

His emotional briefing comes as new figures show the devastating toll of COVID-19 at Ontario’s long term care homes where residents account for one in seven of all deaths in the province. 516 seniors in Ontario have died from COVID-19 with outbreaks at 132 homes.
