Premier Doug Ford says his government is watching COVID -19 numbers and if things go in the wrong direction, he’ll intervene. “We’re going to monitor it and yes we’re going to watch it like a hawk and we’re relying on the advice from our health table,” said Ford. “If cases are going up, it’ll be concerning to say the least, I won’t hesitate to roll things back again,” added Ford. Ford says he was shocked to see that Ontario has completed fewer than 10,000 tests in each of the past three days and promises a plan to ramp it up.
Meantime, the Ford government is now recommending wearing a cloth face covering when using public transit and in public when you can’t maintain two metres of physical distancing. Health Minister Christine Elliott says they’ve take the step now as more sectors of the economy are re-opening. “Please do not use medical masks,” pleaded Elliott. “These should be reserved for health care workers, those providing direct care and first responders, instead use a cloth mask.” Wearing a face covering is a recommendation, not mandatory.
