AMAZON CANADA FIRST NOVEL AWARD FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

Looking for a good book to read during these days of self isolation? Edmonton-raised Andrew David MacDonald’s  When We Were Vikings  is one of six novels in the running for the Amazon Canada First Novel award. Vancouver-based novelist Nazanine Hozar is nominated for Aria about an orphan’s girl rags-to-riches story amid the Iranian Revolution. Halifax author James Gregor is a finalist for his book about a bisexual love triangle Going Dutch. Toronto-based Victoria Hetherington is also a contender for Mooncalves about the implosion of a Quebec cult. Rounding out the short list are Stephane Larue’s  The Dishwasher about Montreal’s fine dining scene.And Kingston writer Nancy Jo Cullen’s The Western Alienation Merit Badge  also made the cut. Each of the finalists receive $6,000 and the winner will be announced virtually on June 25
