All child care centres in Ontario can reopen this Friday with capacity limits and more cleaning and screening.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce says operators will be required to limit the number of kids and staff to 10 people per room. The new rules include increased cleaning, no visitors and all staff and children will be screened for symptoms before entering. Frontline workers will be given priority for spots. Lecce says parents who choose to keep their kids at home, will have their spots protected and won’t be charged fees. If there’s a case of COVID-19, the daycare will be shut down. The province says there will be zero tolerance for daycares that don’t comply with new COVID-19 guidelines when they re-open. “We will be increasing penalties by $1,000 per day, per per child or a net 50 percent increase the penalty regime,” says Lecce.
