Gone With the Wind has been temporarily removed from H-B-O’s streaming library.
The company cites depictions of racial prejudice as the reason. When the 1939 movie returns to the line up, it will include historical context and a denouncement of its portrayal of romanticized slavery in the Civil War-era South. Protests in the wake of George Floyd’s death have forced entertainment companies to grapple with the appropriateness of both current and past productions. Gone With the Wind won eight Academy Awards and remains the highest-grossing film of all time when adjusted for inflation.
