As a new school year creeps closer, parents and students are still waiting to see what it will look like. Thursday, Education Minister Stephen Lecce promised an announcement next week.
“We intend to announce the plan for the safe resumption to class that will be equipped with strong health and safety measures, in short order,” Lecce told reporters.
“We’re finalizing those plans with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and we’ll share more details about that plan, that protocol and those investments, next week.”
The Ford government hasn’t followed Alberta’s lead in confirming a full time return to the classroom, but the Premier isn’t ruling out some creative ideas like outdoor classrooms. Options on the table include in-class instruction , online learning, or a combination of the two.
Meantime, the government announced an education investment of over $500 million dollars to build 30 new schools and make permanent additions to 15 existing ones.
