Nathan Phillips Square looks a bit different. The popular Toronto sign is being removed, to make room for a new permanent more durable, waterproof sign. Mayor John Tory says it quickly ranked among the top three most visited attractions in the city.

“Just days from now we will unveil a great, new sign for everyone to enjoy and I think that’s a very fitting thing to happen as we hopefully continue to emerge from what has been a very difficult period in the history of the city,” said Tory.

The original sign was installed in July 2015 for the Pan America Games and built to last for just a few weeks.

The cost for design, construction and three-year maintenance contract is 762 thousand dollars.
