The University of Toronto has received the largest single donation in Canadian history.
School president Meric Gertler calls the $250-million gift from philanthropic couple James and Louise Temerty “transformative” and the donation will be used for health-care research and innovation.
In exchange for receiving the historic gift from the philanthropists, the university will rename the faculty of medicine after the donors, James and Louise Temerty.
$10M will also be given to U of T’s COVID-19 fund to support front-line clinical work and to improve testing, vaccine research and treatment.
Since 1997, the Temerty Foundation has provided significant philanthropic support to health care, education and culture in Toronto and beyond.
