Visitor restrictions are coming to Ontario’s long term care homes in COVID-19 hotspot areas beginning Monday, October 5th.
Premier Doug Ford says visits to homes in so called hotspots currently being identified by the province’s health team  will be restricted to staff, essential visitors and essential caregivers only but says family members can register to be a caregiver.

“We have made it possible for family members or friends to come in as caregivers, this kind of support is critical and encourage family members and friends, please sign up to be a caregiver because showing up at a home for a few hours to help out is critical,” said Ford.
Each resident can have two caregivers.
Ford says out of 78,000 residents in long-term care, there are only 78 cases of COVID-19 but admits even one case is too many.
Doug Ford says the hotspots-Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa-account for 80 percent of all new COVID cases in the province.
Meantime, the province has announced $540M for long-term care to help with with containment, staffing supports, renovations and to purchase of PPE.
The Premier promises more support for personal support workers will be announced in the coming days.
