Doug Ford says the decision to close indoor dining in the three COVID hotspot regions of Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa the most difficult decision he’s made and he’s calling on food delivery services to reduce fees and commission to help small restaurants.
“And I have a message for the big third party food delivery services like Uber Eats, it’s time for you to do your part,” said Ford. “We need you to help out these mom and pop shops right now, please consider reducing the commission rates you charge the restaurants impacted by these new health measures.”
Some food delivery services charge 30 percent commission but one company has waived its delivery fee for the three hot spots until early November.
The Premier touted his government’s $300M plan to help restaurants and small business with the second wave shutdown.

“So please, do the right thing in these difficult times and I want to call on the great people of this province right now, please rally around your small businesses if you can, if you have the means, please shop local buy Ontario-made has never been more important to support our own,” Ford told reporters.
Meantime, the government confirms there are no plans to roll other jurisdictions back into a modified Stage 2. Ontario is deciding which of the province’s long-term care homes will get help from the Canadian Red Cross.
Responding to a question on why the homes aren’t equipped to handle the second wave on their own, the premier says it’s all hands on deck.
“I just want to make sure we have all the support we need in these long term care homes,” said Premier Doug Ford.
The Ministry of Long-Term Care is finalizing details of the Red Cross deployment over the coming days after the move was approved by the federal government.
