With Canada’s COVID total inching closer to 200,000 cases, Ontario, Manitoba and parts of Quebec are ramping up public health restrictions. Ontario tightened restrictions on long-term care homes in three hotspots starting Friday, as well as reinstating stricter rules in York Region beginning Monday.
Canada’s chief public health officer Doctor Theresa Tam calls this second wave trend concerning.
“In order to keep COVID-19 activity at a manageable level, particularly in areas experiencing high infection rates, restriction or limitations may be imposed on higher risk settings or activities but regardless, if you have symptoms, even mild ones, stay home and self isolate,” says Dr. Tam.
Tam is also reminding everyone that this is the start of the flu season. And Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott doubled down today on her claim that there is no flu vaccine shortage , despite stories of long lineups, waiting lists and being turned away.
“We do not have a shortage of flu vaccine, we are receiving them from several global manufacturers on a regular basis and everyone who wants to receive one, will be able to get one,” Elliott repeated at Friday’s daily briefing.
Increased demand this year is leading to temporary shortages at some pharmacies and doctors’ offices
