NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says her party will help the Ford government pass its COVID-19 liability protection legislation only if it removes long term care homes from the bill.

But Doug Ford says his government won’t commit to that, saying families can still sue if there’s evidence of gross negligence.

“As sure as I’m standing here, there will be justice against the bad actors in long term care and keep in mind, there’s something like 626 homes and I can’t paint a broad brush,” said Ford. “I will not stand here and protect these big companies that acted recklessly and carelessly.”
Meantime, Ford says long term care homes in outbreak, rural regions and Northern Ontario will be the first to receive the 100,000 Abbott rapid the province has received.
