Toronto has recorded a single day record high of 850 new cases of COVID-19 and 19 more people have died from the virus. The city’s top doctor says the youngest person in hospital with the virus is 23 and a 47-year-old has died. Dr. Eileen de Villa says this is a call to action.

“When we talk about cases, it’s important to remember the cases we report, only reflect the tip of the iceberg, the number of true infections is much larger than the cases we report,” cautioned Dr. de Villa.

Toronto has now surpassed a total of 50,000 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Mayor John Tory says officials are in discussions right now about using the holidays to discuss further lockdowns.

“I’ve already asked out city officials to review all of our own facilities and programs to see what more could or should be shut down or modified to help further stop the spread of COVID-19,” remarked Tory.
