The French president is said to be suffering from fever, cough and fatigue, while no details of his treatment have been revealed.

Meantime, French doctors are warning families who are heading for the holidays to remain cautious because of an uptick in infections, especially at the dinner table.

While 42 year old Macron routinely wears a mask and adheres to social distancing rules, he hosted or took part in multiple group meals in the days before testing positive yesterday.

France has recorded more cases of the coronavirus than any other European nation and is behind only the U.S., India, Brazil and Russia, respectively, for the highest number of infections worldwide.

More than 2.4 million people have contracted COVID-19 in France, including 59,472 related deaths, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
