The Ford government has announced a temporary reduced hydro rate of 8.5 cents per kilowatt hour.

“We know people need that extra help, especially during winter and this reduction will benefit households, small businesses and farms,” said Premier Ford.

The rate applies 24-hours-a-day for 28 days beginning January 1st.

“The off-peak price will apply whether you’re a time of use customer, or a tiered rate customer and ratepayers don’t need to do a single thing,” remarked Associate Energy Minister Bill Walker. “This reductions will happen automatically on January first and you will see the change on the next bill you receive after that date. ”

The provincial government also announced a one-time payment of $200 for the parents of secondary school students. The money is meant to help students buy necessary supplies for online learning during January when schools will remain closed for extended Christmas break.
