On the second straight record day for new infections; and first time the city’s topped 1,000 daily cases, comes a carefully worded warning from the medical officer of health.

”It is now reasonable that we should brace for an extended period of potentially unsettling and discouraging numbers in terms of COVID-19 infections in Toronto,” said Dr. Eileen de Villa.
She goes on to say that the level of infection is such that every neighbourhood in the city meets the province’s criteria for red zone designation, which is why de Villa says residents need to ”double down,” and stay apart.
Mayor John Tory says the reason the numbers are so high is because people continue to gather.
Early next week, Toronto Public Health will announce additional measures aimed at reducing risk in workplaces.
