Toronto is now publicly reporting workplace outbreaks as infections rise across the city. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa says businesses must immediately notify Toronto Public Health as soon as two or more employees test positive and they must also designate a contact person. In addition, de Villa announced new measures to help curb the spread.
“They must implement rigorous and frequent cleaning in all high touch areas and areas accessible to the public and ensure regular functional assessments of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems,” said Dr. de Villa. “Employers will also be required to ensure that physical distancing of employees by at least two metres takes place throughout the workplace.”
The information will be posted today on the city’s website and updated every Thursday and will show information on outbreaks including grocery stores, offices, factories and construction.
Toronto is reporting 974 new cases and nine more deaths. 366 people are in hospital, 98 in ICU.
