While many of the approximately 1-million Canadians who head south for the winter stayed home this year, the ones who went are getting their shots avoiding the wait facing others north of the border.
Over 329,000 people in Florida have already received their first doses of COVID-19 vaccines, compared to fewer than 206,000 administered across Canada as of today.
74-year-old Perry Cohen of Toronto, who spends about half the year down south, says he was among the first to get inoculated at his retirement community in Deerfield Beach, north of Miami.
One hotel operator in southern Florida says he’s received calls from Canadians anxious to go to the ‘Sunshine State’ just for that reason.
