A dire warning from Ontario’s Associate Medical Officer of Health.
“COVID-19 morbidity and mortality are at the highest levels we’ve seen since the start of the pandemic,” warned Dr. Barbara Yaffe.

There have been been 330 new outbreaks over the past week, half in vulnerable sectors including workplaces.

“Places where people may be congregating during break time, or having coffee and obviously not wearing a mask and car pooling which can be a concern, those kinds of things and social gatherings either at home or somebody else’s house.”

Dr. Yaffe notes the virus is spreading across the province, not just hot zones.

“People know what they should be doing bottom line is we have told them over and over again and it’s a shame that we have for government to force them into doing the right thing.”

Ontario’s cabinet is meeting Monday to consider new measures to fight skyrocketing rates of COVID as the province death toll tops 5,000.

Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath accuses the Ford government of “stalling” on new public health restrictions, a move she said will cost lives.
