While the two Michaels remain under arrest in China, the husband and children of detained Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou are in Vancouver to visit her.
Husband Liu Xiaozong arrived in October and their two children in December.
Currently, foreign nationals are barred from non-essential travel unless they’re visiting immediate family members who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
Meng Wanzhou is not a Canadian citizen and has not been a permanent resident since 2009.
However, under current travel restrictions, Immigration Canada can grant travel exemptions for the purpose of reunification with an immediate family member who’s here on a temporary basis.
While Meng’s family is still here, Canadians Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, who are charged with espionage, marked two years in Chinese prison in December.

Meng’s facing extradition to the U.S. on fraud charges, that she and Huawei deny, and remains under house arrest in Vancouver.
