Canada’s top public health officials have released new projections that suggest we could see 10,000 infections daily infections by month’s end and another 2,000 deaths.
Public Health Agency of Canada bases its modelling on current case counts, saying the country ”remains on a rapid growth trajectory.
”Quick, strong and sustained measures are needed to interrupt rapid growth and maintain COVID-19 control,” according to the agency.
”Reducing COVID-19 activity is urgently needed as rollout of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines begins.”
Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam says vaccines alone won’t stop the spread if community transmission is high.
That’s why she stresses the importance of following public health measures.
”Do all of those things, don’t do non-essential travel. All that really counts. It works. And when you can suppress that projection, the vaccines have a longer runway.
