On the eve of the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Joe Biden, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau vows to keep pressing the case for the Keystone XL pipeline project.

Biden’s reportedly poised to pull the plug by rescinding the permit given by Donald Trump to allow its cross-border construction.

But Trudeau offers little information about Ottawa’s next steps as the countries prepare for a new chapter in their relationship.

”We’ve had a clear and consistent position supporting this project for years,” says the prime minister.

”Our government is making sure that  Canada’s views are heard and considered by the incoming administration at the highest levels. 

I’m really looking forward to working closely with the new president and his team to create jobs and build back better together, for us all.”

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has said he will seek legal damages if the project’s cancelled.

Asked if he would support such a move, Trudeau repeated he supports the project and he, along with Canadian officials in Washington, will continue argue Canada’s stance.
