A new COVID report out of Israel finds that just one dose of the Pfizer vaccine may be only 33 percent effective in the elderly without the second shot. Ontario’s Associate Medical Officer of Health says the news is both concerning and not great given the currently vaccine shortage in Canada.
“We have been following as much as possible that vaccines should be given within 21 to 27 days however the National Advisory Committee on Immunization and the World Health Organization have both said that if the circumstances are such that if you need to increase the interval, you can and it’s acceptable to go up to 42 days.”
Dr. Yaffe says top Canada’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Theresa Tam hopes to speak soon with Israeli officials to get more information.
