There are 34 confirmed cases of the U-K COVID variant in Ontario, a more highly infections strain, and possibly more deadly according to U-K Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
But provincial health table infectious disease specialist Dr. Vanessa Allen says there are new concerns over two other variants, found in Brazil and South Africa yet no cases have been identified in Ontario.
“The goal based on the data right now is to do everything we can to contain every single case we find and increase our capacity to find them, recognizing that we still don’t have the full picture because we have not tested everybody to date.”
In addition to a Barrie long term care home, Kingston is also reporting a case of the more contagious U-K strain and the city’s public health unit is telling anyone who’s travelled or had visitors from outside the region to consider getting an asymptomatic test.
