The European Union is threatening protectionist measures to limit how many doses of COVID-19 vaccines are sent abroad so as to ensure the 27-member bloc has enough supply.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is communicating with its partners in Europe to make sure contracts Ottawa have signed are honoured.
He remains confident they will be.
”The close working relationship gives me assurance that the contracts we’ve signed and the supply chains we’ve established … are in good shape,” adds Trudeau.
In fact, the prime minister says he spoke with the CEO of Moderna this morning.
”The topic of their recent musings by Europe certainly came up and it was very, very clear that the Canadian contracts that have been signed, and the delivery schedule laid out will be respected,” he adds.
Trudeau repeated Canada’s expecting 4-million doses from Pfizer and another 2-million from Moderna by the end of the first quarter.
