Another weekend public safety blitz at big box stores across Ontario is showing just a 59 percent compliance rate.
“Not good enough and we’ve issued a number of tickets to help them up their game,” Labour Minister Monte McNaughton explained on Sunday.
McNaughton says 20 tickets were given out on Saturday; seven of those in both Toronto and Hamilton and six in Kitchener-Waterloo.
More than 220 stores were inspected on Saturday.
The compliance rate in Toronto was actually close to 80 percent, but was offset by a 41 percent compliance rate in Hamilton and 57 percent in Kitchener.
Results for Sunday’s blitz are expected later on Monday.
These weekend safety campaigns began on the weekend of January 15th after new emergency measures went into effect across the province. Premier Doug Ford said he would come down on non-compliant big box stores like an 800 lb. gorilla. Fines for non-compliance are $1000 for businesses, and $750 for individuals.
