SONGWRITER JIM WEATHERLY DIES at 77

His wrote the song that became a monster hit for Gladys Knight and the Pips.

Jim Weatherly has died at his home near Nashville, Tennessee.  His music publisher said the family attributed the death to natural causes.

Weatherly released nearly a dozen studio albums during his five-decade career, but his biggest hit would be “Midnight Train to Georgia,” which won a Grammy for Gladys Knight and the Pips in 1973 and went into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.

Weatherly was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014.

Jim Weatherly was 77.
