The next phase of the Ontario’s workplace inspection blitz will focus on warehouses and distribution centres in Peel Region. Labour Minister Monte McNaughton says these workers have been hit especially hard.
“Businesses in this sector also employ a high percentage of temporary workers so we want to make sure the virus isn’t travelling with them back home to their loved ones,” explained McNaughton.
Inspectors are finding infractions like improper use of face masks and employers with no health and safety plan in place.
The minister says there will be zero tolerance by his ministry and that employers who fail to keep them safe will be ticketed or shut down. Corporations can be fined $1,000 for failing to comply with health orders. The labour ministry says 218 tickets have been issued since inspections focused on big-box stores began last month.
