Experts say the good news is that two in three Canadians trust COVID-19 vaccines to be both safe and effective.

The bad news is that one in three Canadians, or 33 percent, are not convinced vaccines which protect against the new coronavirus are safe and effective.

Bruce MacLellan is CEO of Proof Strategies which conducted the survey.

He says what’s promising is that the results also suggest there is room to convince more people to trust the vaccines.

“There’s a pretty large group in the middle who are not saying they don’t trust it (the vaccine), but they’re not saying they do trust it,” MacLellan explains, “So that would be the accessible group for public health agencies to reach and persuade to move them into the trusting group.”

The survey, conducted in mid-January, also found about eight in 10 respondents trust doctors and scientists to provide accurate COVID-19 information, while fewer than half had trust in the information coming from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and their provincial premiers.
