Seven-percent of screened COVID cases in Ontario are the more contagious variants.
But Ontario’s Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barbara Yaffe wouldn’t pin down when the province will lock things down again based on the spread of the variants.
“I don’t want to say a certain number because you know because sometimes it depends on the specific situation,” explained Dr. Yaffe. “I do recall that Dr. Brown in his modelling said 10 percent is when it would really start to skyrocket but again we’d be looking by health units as well.”
Despite regions re-opening, Dr. Yaffe and other health experts remind us all to continue to stay home.
“Even though the numbers are getting better, they’re not good, as Dr. Huyer said, people are still dying, people are still in the hospital ICU and people are off ill, so we need to keep doing everything we’re doing to keep this infection down.”
Ontario has 319 confirmed cases of variants; 309 are the U-K variant, 9 South African and 1 of the Brazilian variant.
