Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has repeatedly said his government’s confident all those who want a shot will be immunized by the end of September.
Now he’s saying ending the campaign earlier is ”possible,” if all goes according to plan with deliveries, and if other vaccines are approved.
”As I’ve been saying since this past November, we expect all Canadians to be vaccinated by the end of September, for those who want it,” Trudeau said.
”It’s possible that those timelines can be moved forward.”
Health Canada’s recent approval of AstraZeneca will add over 20-million doses to the country’s stockpile over the next six months, however the delivery schedule for most of them hasn’t yet been finalized.
One shipment of 500,000 AstraZeneca doses arrived today, but questions remain about who should get them.
Some provinces, like Ontario, intend to follow the recommendation from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization not to give it to those 65 and older.
