Alek Minassian has been found guilty on all 26 charges in the deadly van attack in North York in April 2018.
The lawyer for the 28-year-old Richmond Hill man says his client did not know what he was doing was wrong because he has autism spectrum disorder.
Justice Anne Molloy says the defence failed to prove he was not criminally responsible.
Ten pedestrians were killed, while 16 were injured in the attack along of stretch of sidewalk in North York almost three years ago.
Outside the courthouse … Cathy Riddell who was among those injured had this reaction to the verdict.
”It was the best I could hope for.  I think it was a fair decision, and he can spend the rest of his life in jail because he deserves it.  He took lives and he didn’t care and you know what, you just have to be accountable for what you do,” said Riddell.
Mayor John Tory says ”while there will never be complete closure for the families of those who died, those who were injured or for the city itself … the conclusion of these proceedings will help.”
Police Chief James Ramer says the verdict ”may allow our community to try to turn a page to focus on healing together.”
