Ontario’s updated vaccine plan anticipates getting everyone over 60 vaccinated by the end of May or early June starting first with older seniors.
Phase two will also target seniors in hot spots in the G-T-H-A.
Anyone 59 and younger will start to get shots in July although time lines could be advanced with extra Pfizer doses coming and Johnson & Johnson approved for Canada. Elementary and secondary school staff are also eligible to be vaccinated as part of Phase two next month.
“And you’ll be able to get the vaccine at the right time through your public health unit, a mass vaccination site, through your family doctor or through a local pharmacy and the details will be coming out province wide in the very near future,” said Rick Hillier, Vaccine Task Force Chair.
To date, over 800,000 doses have been administered and Hillier says nearly 80-percent of long-term care residents have been immunized.
“And we’re going to finish the long term care and retirement homes, the patient-facing health care workers, the indigenous adults in the prioritized at-risk communities and those 80 and older across our province.”
Hillier expects two million more vaccine doses by the end of the month. These new timelines could change based of vaccine supply.
