If you ride the UP Express between Union station and Pearson Airport, there is a new way to pay as of Thursday.

Anne Marie Aikens at Metrolinx says riders are now be able to tap a credit card directly on the Presto fare readers.

“We wanted to have a consistent way for people to pay throughout the region…and now it’s available on UP Express.”

Aikens says the lower passenger volumes and the relatively controlled environment of the four-stop UP Express made it a logical choice for the pilot.

Ridership on the service has dropped to only about 550 passengers a day during the pandemic.

Aikens says if all goes well with the UP Express, the agency hopes to start deploying the “credit card” feature across the GO Transit network “fairly quickly.”

She says it will still be years from being available on the TTC.
