The occupants of an east-end Toronto home had virtually no chance of surviving an early morning fire January 29.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Toronto Fire Services has determined there were no working smoke alarms at 95 Gainsborough Road.
”Without a doubt that absolutely played a significant role in this tragedy,” said Acting Toronto Fire Chief Jim Jessop.
The cause of the fire was an electrical failure in the dining room ceiling.
Four people died including a seven-year-old boy.

The Office of the Fire Marshal is encouraging homeowners to change batteries in their smoke detectors and test them this weekend as clocks go ahead one hour Sunday to Daylight Saving Time.
