He was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario 66 years ago and for ten years his 2009 film “Avatar” held the title of highest grossing film of all time. Now, thanks to the movie’s re-release in China, James Cameron is back at number one.
The sci-fi epic debuted 12 years ago and held the global box office title until it was overtaken by “Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame,” two year’s ago.
Following its re-release in the world’s biggest movie-watching market, worldwide total “Avatar” sales pushed above the $2.8 Billion mark on the weekend.
Cameron is currently working on four “Avatar” sequels. The next in the series is scheduled for release in December 2022.
