A 10th Toronto mass vaccination clinic is set to open Wednesday at the Thorncliffe Park Community Hub located in the East York Town Centre. The first three clinics to open are now running at more than triple the daily capacity compared to last week as officials say lineups are an issue.

Mayor John Tory says city officials are finding innovative ways to reach seniors to help them book vaccine appointments.

“The Toronto Public Library is mobilizing its staff to reach out to seniors to make sure they are aware of how to register and to provide further information, if needed,” said Tory. “Library staff will start with calls to about 10,000 library users who are seniors 80 and older and then reach out to about 25,000 more seniors between the ages 70 and 79.”

Toronto Community Housing is also working to get seniors in TCHC buildings  vaccinated. So far, 23 of these buildings have held  vaccination clinics.

In addition, the city is reaching out to community groups, including places of worship to help seniors book appointments.

To date, almost 375-thousand vaccine doses have been administered in Toronto.

Meantime, 50 percent of the COVID cases in Toronto are now the variants of concern and the city’s top doctor Eileen de Villa says that’s up from 44 percent from just a week before.

Toronto has reported roughly 5,000 variant cases to date.
