Cellist Yo-Yo Ma says he’s never created music for a book before until now. He’s working in a collaboration with author Sandra Boynton to make music for her book Jungle Night.

Ma used his cello to bring to life the sounds of snoozing jungle creatures and also performed in the soundtrack that accompanies the book.

“I’ve done soundtracks, but not for books, so this is the very first time that I did a soundtrack for a book, which is very exciting,” said Ma. “It’s Sandy Boynton who thought up the idea of the specific sounds that the animals would make in Jungle Night, and then I would try to match them on the cello.”

Released this week, Jungle Night takes young readers on a journey through a sleeping jungle.
