He was known as the dope lawyer for 60’s counterculture clients in San Francisco like Ken Kesey, the Grateful Dead and and Jefferson Airplane.

Brian Rohan became the go-to attorney for illegal drug charges.

After he defended Kesey, the author of “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” on marijuana possession charges, he co-founded the Haight Ashbury Legal Organization.

Thanks to his association with the Grateful Dead, Rohan became a music lawyer and helped the band negotiate its first record contract.

He also represented Janis Joplin and Santana.

Brian Rohan has died after a six-year battle with cancer.
