The actress who played the mother to Dennis the Menace in the 60’s CBS Television series.

Gloria Henry played Alice Mitchell from 1959 to 1963 and went on to star in several movies and other TV shows, among them Perry Mason, Simon & Simon and Dallas.

Henry once explained that back in the 50’s, when studio bosses could make or break a career, she was told by Harry Cohn, then head of CBS studios that she’s have a career over his dead body.  A couple of years later she auditioned for part of Alice Mitchell sure she would not be hired.  However, Cohn dropped dead of a heart attack and she got the role.

Gloria Henry died over the weekend at her home in Los Angeles a day after her 98th birthday.
