When this pandemic ends, you may want to forget it ever happened! But a Toronto artist hopes his new COVID-19 comic book will inspire memories of humour and hope when we look back on these challenging times.

Toronto artist Michael Vickers kept a daily journal of the first 89 days of the pandemic. His new book DAILY COVID COMIC is a collection of these reflections accompanied by black and white illustrations, a different medium for this painter and sculptor.

“I wasn’t expecting it to be this sort of historical document but that’s what it really is in a lot of ways, 89 days of the arrival of the pandemic,” remarked Micheal.

Everything from the mundane early craze of baking bread, to panic buying toilet paper, and navigating new normals like wearing masks. These and more are found in Michael’s daily journal that he first posted to social media and immediately attracted followers.

“The one thing I’m really proud about the book is its honesty and candor showing the good, the bad, the ugly, the difficult, the funny, the sad, all of the sort of huge range of emotions.”

Amid this third wave and another stay-at-home order, Michael hopes his archive of these historic times serves as a reminder we are all in this together, even our pets!

“My cat River has really become the star of the show in this book, for anyone who has a cat at home, you know that when you’re stuck indoors all day, there’s even more of an opportunity for our feline friends to wreak havoc.”

The book is $20.20 and a portion of all proceeds are donated to  Wildseed – Centre for Activism and Art and the Schizophrenia Society of Canada Foundation. To order a copy of the book, visit
