Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been convicted of murder in last May’s arrest of George Floyd.
After deliberations lasting just over 10-hours, the 12-member jury found Chauvin guilty of all charges, including second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter.
He’ll remain in custody until sentencing in a couple of months.
Outside the courthouse, a crowd of several hundred erupted in cheers.
Witness video captured Chauvin pushing his knee into the neck of the handcuffed Floyd for nearly 9 1/2 minutes.
Chauvin and three other officers were fired the next day.
The other three are to stand trial later year on aiding-and-abetting charges in Floyd’s death which prompted racial justice protests around the world.
