Ontario is accelerating the vaccination timeline, as supply ramps up.
“This is exciting news,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott. Starting Friday, April 30, anyone 55 can book through the provincial portal here
The province is also increasing its vaccine reach into hard hit areas by targeting 50 percent of the supply during the first two weeks of May.
Solicitor General Sylvia Jones was pressed to explain why just two weeks as the province plans to return to a per capita distribution the week of May 17th.
“And the belief is by doing it very aggressively for two weeks, and not taking away any vaccines from the existing other public health units, we can actually really beat down the positivity rates within those communities and ultimately help all of Ontario get back to normal.”
The NDP’s Doly Begum who represents Scarborough Southwest, says targeting hot spot regions for just two weeks…is too little, too late.
“The science table recommended 25 days and we’re now seeing the government use two weeks and I’m extremely cautious because I’ve seen the government mess up the roll out over the past months and I am not looking forward to the next couple of weeks”
