A new goal has been set in Ontario, for 65 percent of adults to receive their first COVID-19 vaccine dose by the end of May.

While explaining where we’re at now, Health Minister Christine Elliott says the target is to get first shots into nearly eight million people by the last day of the month.

“To date, over 5.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered and 43-percent of Ontario adults have received their first dose,” Elliott revealed.

The plan is for all adults in Ontario to book their first shot by the week of May 24th but available appointments for those vaccinations will vary from region to region.

For instance, all adults 18 and over in Peel Region become eligible to book a COVID vaccine as of 8am Thursday May 6th.

Ontario is scheduled to receive nearly 800,000 Pfizer doses every week this month and more than 900,000 doses each week during June.

Close to 400,000 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine are expected on Thursday (May 6th) with another similar shipment to arrive May 17th.

Future allocations of the AstraZeneca vaccine have not been confirmed and details of how the province will distribute the 116,000 doses of the single shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine have yet to be released.
