Former broadcast journalist Mike Duffy is retiring from the Canadian Senate after 12 years in the Red Chamber.
Duffy has reached the mandatory retirement age of 75.
In his farewell speech, he took a swipe at the Senate, where he faced 31 criminal charges stemming from an expense scandal. In 2016 he was cleared of all charges that he’d claimed property in his home province of Prince Edward Island as his principal residence for tax purposes.
Duffy was appointed to the Senate in 2009 by then Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
