Ontario’s premier has lost support for his handling of the pandemic during the third wave, but opposition popularity is also down.

According to a new Leger poll, Doug Ford’s popularity has slipped over the past two months after he opened restaurants and then abruptly closed them and left schools open for a single day after Easter Weekend when the province was seeing a spike in new COVID-19 infections.

In March, before the third wave took off, nearly two-thirds of Ontario residents thought Ford personally was doing at least a “somewhat good” job managing the pandemic with just one third saying he was doing “a bad job.”

Now, Ford’s personal numbers have tanked. The total of “somewhat good” and “very good” is at 44 percent. The total of “somewhat bad” or “very bad” is over half at 53 percent.

Voting intentions for Ford’s Progressive Conservatives are at 34 percent support, but the opposition parties are all behind that number with the Liberals under Steven Del Duca at 26 percent, the Andrea Horwath New Democrats at 25 percent and 9 percent for the Greens led by Mike Schreiner.
