The British Royals did not allow ethnic minorities to take up office roles.
That, according to the Guardian newspaper, which reports newly discovered documents will rekindle debate over the Royal family and race.
They reveal how in 1968, the Queen’s chief financial manager informed civil servants that ”it was not, in fact, the practice to appoint coloured immigrants or foreigners” to clerical roles, although they could work as domestic servants.
It’s not clear when this practice ended.
Buckingham Palace refuses to say when the ban was revoked.
Some Royal family members have been criticized for their racist remarks.
In March, the family’s first mixed-race member, the Duchess of Sussex, alleged a family member had expressed concern about her child’s skin colour.
However, Meaghan Markle’s brother-in-law, Prince William, dismissed such talk saying the Royal family was ”very much not” racist.
