After meeting with the Jewish community last week to talk about the rising incidents of antisemitism in Toronto, the mayor met with members of the local Muslim community today to discuss their concerns about Islamophobia.
”Following this morning’s meeting, I felt it was important to speak out once again about the acts of hatred the Muslim community has been experiencing,” said John Tory in a statement.
”Islamophobia has absolutely no place in our city. We should all never hesitate to stand up and say that and to call out those perpetrating acts of hatred against our Muslim community when we see them.
Islamophobia isn’t the only form of hatred on the rise in our city or around the world. As I heard from our Jewish community last week, acts of antisemitism are also increasing.”
Tory adds the city has been working to try to combat these acts of hatred.
