City of Toronto staff are reporting increasing and disturbing reports from vaccination clients abusing clinic staff, including racist and sexist behaviour.

“It’s just not acceptable, these employees are working to get people vaccinated so that we can bring the pandemic to an end, so that we can keep people healthy, so that we can save lives, they are heroes,” said Mayor John Tory.

He says much of the poor behaviour stems from people wanting to take photos to later post on social media. Photos are not allowed inside city clinics for privacy reasons.

There are 122 confirmed cases of Delta variant in Toronto. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa says while it may not seem like a lot, it could explode.

“But the good news is that evidence from other parts of the world, proves that vaccines are holding strong against the Delta variant and are continuing to protect people, particularly with two doses of vaccine,” explained Dr. de Villa.

11% of Torontonians having had two doses of vaccine. The lower daily infection rate is helping Toronto public health do more effective case count and tracing.

With Friday’s reopening looming, Dr. DeVilla reminds residents that just because you will be able to do more, doesn’t mean you should.
