Patrick Brown says he’s joined the other GTHA mayors in requesting from the governing Ford Progressive Conservatives that personal care services be allowed to reopen before the current target date of July 2nd.

Brampton’s mayor explained during a media briefing on Wednesday, there are two reasons for the request.

“Many people on TV, their hair is long and they look disheveled, but the reality is that there are haircuts happening out there, in backyards, so you’ve created an underground economy and given the COVID case decline, I believe there is a pathway to safely reopen in advance of July 2nd,” Brown stressed.

Mayor Brown pointed out that personal care services had strict infection protocols and other safety procedures in place even before the pandemic and they’ve been closed down long enough, since November 23rd, in both Peel and Toronto.

The Road to Reopening plan is now in Step One which allows for patio dining, non-essential retail with street entrances to have 15 percent capacity, along with outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people.

Step 2 allows for personal care services to reopen, summer camp, and outside gatherings of up to 25 people, among other eased restrictions.
